DIY Jewelry Holder: A Wall-Mounted Necklace & Watch Organizer

🪵 One 6 ft pine board 💰 $45 total 🔨 Stained dark

The perfect spot for every necklace and watch

If your necklaces live in a tangled heap in a drawer, this is the fix. This wall-mounted holder gives every chain its own brass hook, so you can see everything you own and pull out the one you want without untangling the rest. Along the top, a narrow ledge with four dowels is the perfect spot for watches and bracelets. It takes one pine board, a handful of hooks, and a dark stain that makes your jewelry stand out.

Materials

What we did

Step 1: Cut the wood

Cut the 1x4 board into three 24″ pieces and the dowel into four 4″ pieces.

Step 2: Glue the back panel

Run wood glue along the edge of two of the boards, set them side by side, and clamp them together until the glue sets. This makes the tall back panel.

Step 3: Add the ledge

Glue the third board onto the back panel so it sticks out as a ledge, about halfway up the bottom board. Clamp the whole assembly together while it dries.

Step 4: Reinforce from behind

Once the glue has set, add 1″ screws from the back for extra support so the ledge can carry the weight of your watches.

Step 5: Add the dowels

Glue the four 4″ dowels upright onto the ledge. This is where your watches and bracelets will sit.

Step 6: Drill pilot holes for the hooks

Mark evenly spaced points along the bottom of the vertical panel and the bottom of the horizontal ledge, then drill 5/64″ pilot holes at each one. Pilot holes make the hooks easy to screw in and keep the pine from splitting.

Step 7: Stain

Stain everything with the same oil-based Minwax stain in Espresso that I used on the industrial desk. Wipe off the excess and let it dry.

Step 8: Add the hooks and hang it

Screw a brass cup hook into every pilot hole. Then mount the holder on the wall with the five 2″ screws.

Tip: Staggering the hooks, with one row under the ledge and one row on the face of the lower board, lets you hang a lot of necklaces without them overlapping.

Result

A wall-mounted holder for all of your necklaces and watches, in one place and easy to see. It's sturdy, it looks great against a dark stain, and it's all built from a single board.
